  • Well, it was inevitable that when Mr. Ballmer announced that Microsoft was "all in" on the cloud that it would eventually have to restructure its partner channel programs. It is difficult for Microsoft to make changes to these programs without some partners being disadvantaged because partners depend on them to a lesser or greater degree based on their business model. The legacy model of recommending and selling Microsoft solutions and receiving fees and commissions is coming to an end. The cloud is disintermediating the relationship between Microsoft and its customers. Microsoft's partner channel will be less valuable to Microsoft going forward and will receive less in commissions and fees as a result.
